Our global base in Australia
London, Paris, Dubai, Monte Carlo, New York, Milan, it all sounds very glamorous; and it is. Xiang and Scott, founders of Source Tank, have spent many years travelling the world, working with elite clientele and rubbing shoulders with people in all areas of the beauty products industry. Today, they happily call Australia their global base.
Stepping stones to a global business
Xiang speaks several languages fluently. This has helped her shape the business to be a player in an industry that needs to appeal to a global audience.
In his younger years, Scott worked with Queensland national parks as a research officer. During this time, he had the rare opportunity to visit some of the most isolated and pristine parts of the Great Barrier Reef. This was the start of his love for the ocean and the wildlife that inhabited it.
Scott later worked in the yachting industry as a mega yacht captain in the Mediterranean and building super yachts in Dubai as a Project Leader. In his working career, he has seen the affect plastics continue to have on the marine environment. Scott now works toward the sourcing of environmentally friendly, natural bio-degradable products.
Australia calling
Ultimately Scott, is an Aussie. And as many of you would appreciate, no matter how far or how wide any Aussie roams, they still call Australia home.
Being able to run a global business from Australia was an ideal outcome. In 2020 they settled back in Australia just before the second COVID-19 spike in Europe.
Having situated themselves in the South-East of Queensland, the pair are now based in a sub-tropical paradise, smack-bang in the middle of the Aussie wilderness. A stone’s throw from Brisbane (one of Australia’s eight capital cities) and a one-hour flight from the country’s international epicentre, Sydney.
While Australia does have its sprawling cities and concrete jungles, there are also pockets that harbour the survival of native flora and fauna.
When we asked Xiang about her new location, she said, “We love seeing Koala’s resting in trees on our property or walking around our yard on a regular basis, look – I’ll show you.” The video above shows some of the friendly locals.
Having a positive impact
Scott remains focused on the sea and the impact we are having on it, doing his part through the business and by his daily living habits.
As we wandered along a nearby beach, he is a wealth of information. He spoke of the volume of plastics entering our oceans and in particular the impact that is having on the marine population. One startling fact is that 70% of loggerhead turtles found dead in Queensland have ingested plastics!
It’s probably no surprise then, that as we walked, we collected small pieces of plastic and rubbish from the shoreline. “A pocket full a day…” says Scott “we all have to make an effort – think global, act local.”
And so it is from this global base that Xiang and Scott work with clients throughout the beauty industry. “We really couldn’t ask for a better workplace!” – Xiang Li.
